Formation of Club

The Zonta Club of Accra, the first Zonta club in Accra and Africa was chartered on February 9th 1970. The club was chartered by Dorothy Thompson, an Outstanding and Dedicated Zontian from Canada. Zonta has been introduced to Ghana earlier in the year by Ruth Adjorlolo and Barabara Baeta. The club currently has an active membership of forty-two and currently about to induct six news members.

Projects History

The club has undertaken all these projects partly from its own resources and through fundraising and support from our partners and Benefactors. The club currently has an active membership of forty-two and currently about to induct six news members.

1. Award of Scholarships to needy but brilliant students in some selected senior high schools.

2. Hospital projects- a collaboration with Blue cross, Canada enabled the club to renovate and improve facilities at the mother’s hostel at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Accra.

3. Construction and donation of a Bus Shelter to residents of Accra at Danqauh Circle in the metropolis.

4. Donation of Birthing kits to expectant mothers in some selected communities.

5. Amanfro project- A welfare center has been built by the club in a village on the Accra Dodowa Road to cater for the needs of mothers and children.

6. Library projects- With the assistance from the twin club of Australia, the club established a library at the Faith Community Baptist School and the Legon Staff Junior Secondary School(JSS).

7. With support from EPP books and the Rotary club of Tema, the club has recently taken delivery of a large quantity of assorted textbooks for both Senior and Junior High Schools valued at Ghc26,000 Cedis as a major boost towards the club’s library projects.

8. Zonta Club has provided assistance to HelpAge Ghana in the form of medications, clothing, food items and detergents. HelpAge Ghana is an NGO setup to advance the interest and welfare of the elderly in the Ghanaian society.
